American style design that echoes the detailing on lamps in the Cloisters Library at The Met Cloisters, the Museum's space devoted to the art and architecture of the Middle Ages, which opened in Upper Manhattan in 1938. The library houses around 15,000 volumes covering medieval European decorative arts, sculpture, architecture, painting, stained glass and illuminated manuscripts.
