Details
Antiqued gold finish; convex mirror glass; intricate eagle finial and candle arms that reflect the decoration on the original. Historic provenance: drawn from an American girandole (1817) in The Met collection, made for the Albany townhouse of Stephen Van Rensselaer IV (American, 1786 to 1868). Girandoles, a type of ornamental candleholder popular during the Federal period (1788 to 1825), featured candle arms extending from the frame so light reflects off the convex mirror and illuminates the room.
