The moon jar form is created by seamlessly joining two hemispherical halves; serene sand finish; a delicate peach cast arrives as a gift of the firing process. Historic provenance: inspired by an 18th-century Korean porcelain moon jar in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, named for its softly curved form and milky-white color. Moon jars were popular in the 18th and 19th centuries during the Joseon dynasty (1392 to 1910) and were typically crafted in two halves then joined by hand. The original turned a light peachy color in some spots during firing, imperfections that recall the beauty of nature.
