Handcrafted from granite, so each piece is a unique work of art marked by variations in color and veining. A reproduction of a colossal Egyptian sphinx (ca. 1479 to 1458 B.C.) at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, depicting Hatshepsut with the body of a lion and a human head wearing a headcloth and false beard. The granite original, which displays powerful lion like musculature, was one of at least six granite sphinxes that stood in her mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahri.
