Handcrafted marble bust resting elegantly on a black metal base; each piece is a unique work of art, with variations in color and veining that add to its character. From The Met x Eichholtz. Historic provenance: an exquisite reproduction of an over-life-sized marble portrait of the Roman co-emperor Lucius Verus (A.D. 161 to 169) in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Verus ruled alongside Marcus Aurelius (r. A.D. 161 to 180), and the fragmentary head at the Museum shows him favorably depicted as leonine and majestic, typifying the Antonine style of carving with its exquisite drillwork in the hair and dramatic engraved eyes.
