Matte-black finish with a handmade linen-mix shade from the Netherlands. Part of The Met x Eichholtz, drawing on the intricate fretwork that first appeared in England in the early 18th century and became a hallmark of elegant furniture, as seen in Thomas Chippendale's (British, 1718 to 1779) influential 1754 publication, Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director. The model for the pair of mahogany candlestands (1755 to 60) that inspired this lamp was featured in the first edition.
