Details: Finished in rich brown oak veneer with a beautifully open grain. The sculpted base is inspired by a historic column capital from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, reinterpreted with contemporary finesse, and echoes the sculptural style of the matching dining table. Historic provenance: the design takes its name from a capital bearing a papyrus motif that once crowned the column of a kiosk built in front of the temple of Amun at Hibis in Egypt's Kharga Oasis. Dating to 380 to 343 BCE, the original at The Met combines stylized representations of the common papyrus with foxtail flatsedge plants, an early example of the composite capitals that unite decorative botanical forms into one cohesive design.
