Details
Marble finish with black granite base, from The Met x Eichholtz. Historic provenance: drawn from a Roman head of a youth (117 to 161 CE) in The Met collection, sculpted during the Hadrianic or Early Antonine periods. The polished flesh, sharply defined eyes and intricate locks of hair of the original were typical features of bronze sculpture, imitated in marble as part of the classicizing taste that prevailed during the reign of the emperor Hadrian in the early 2nd century CE.
