Part of The Met x Eichholtz collection. Sand-colored finish over solid construction, with flowing curves, rounded proportions, and a monumental quality. A decorative object, not functional as a vessel. Historic provenance: the design draws on a 7th-century wine container at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, whose form echoes Greco-Roman amphoras while its animal-headed handles draw on Persian and Central Asian traditions, a piece embodying the cosmopolitan spirit of the Tang dynasty (618 to 907).
